Race Overview
The Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara is a Group 1 Weight-For-Age race for fillies and mares aged 3YO and over.
The Tattersall’s Racing Club race is run over 1400m at Eagle Farm in Brisbane with total prizemoney worth $700,000.
Originally known as the Winter Stakes, the inaugural race was won by La Posette in 1989.
It was a Listed Race in 1992, a Group 3 race in 1996, a Group 2 race in 2006 before finally becoming a Group 1 race in 2007.
The race is also the final Group 1 race of the Australian winter season and has always been held at Eagle Farm with the exception of the 2014-15 racing season when it was moved to the Gold Coast because of construction work at the Eagle Farm racecourse.
Doomben also hosted the race in 2017 and 2018.
Originally held over 1500m in 1989, the distance of the race changed to 1400m in 2007 and was 1350m when it was held at Doomben.
A nice incentive for the Tattersall’s Tiara winner is they are also on contention for Racing Victoria’s $1 million bonus should they complete the Tatts Tiara/Empire Rose Stake double.

Prolific-winning trainer Gai Waterhouse is the only trainer to have won the race two times after winning with Cosmic Endeavour in 2014 and Prompt Response in 2018 when she teamed up with trainer Adrian Bott.
The most successful jockey has been Kerrin McEvoy who has won the race twice with Srikandi (2015) and Tycoon Tara (2017).
McEvoy remains the only jockey in the race’s history to have won the race multiple times.
In the short history of the race, Bonanova is the only horse to have won the race in back-to-back years after achieving the feat in 1999 and 2000.
Other notable winners of the race include Dane Ripper (1997) and Srikandi (2015).
The Mike Moroney-trained Tofane won the race in 2021 while the Rob Heathcote-trained filly Startantes saluted in 2022.
Form Indicators
*Favourites backers have a poor overall record in the race with just 8 favourites saluting since 1983 but 3 favourites have won in the last 7 editions of the race including Cosmic Endeavour (2014), Srikandi (2015) and Tofane (2021).
*Of the Black Type races in Brisbane for fillies and mares, the most successful race has been the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes which has produced 7 of the last 13 Tattersall’s Tiara winners.
*Coming off a win in a lead-up race is imperative with 5 winners over the last 13 editions of the race coming off a win in their lead-up race.
*The most successful barrier has been barrier 7 which has delivered 4 winners since 1983.
*During the same period, the least successful barriers have been barriers 1, 2, 10, 11, 13, 14 and 15 which have delivered just 1 winner each.
*Only 2 horses have completed the Tattersall’s Tiara/Stradbroke Handicap double since 1997. They include Dane Ripper (1997) and Srikandi (2015).
*Backing a longshot has reaped rewards in recent years with 3 horses since 2009 saluting at odds of $21 including Russeting (2009), Miss Cover Girl (2016) and Tycoon Tara (2017).
