Feature racing in Melbourne on Sunday is at Sandown and the The Race Club’s Adam Curkpatrick is backing a Ciaron Maher-trained 3YO who won in an impressive debut.
Best Bet
Sandown (Sunday)
Race 1, 1200m
Naval Academy (B+SPG)
Won in in tidy figures on debut before going to town and being well backed and performing admirably.
All indicators point to a step up in trip being favourable and I’d expect he takes holding out back to this level.
He is not without competition, with multiple good winners coming into the race, however I think he is one to follow going forward and happy to back him in.

Value Bet
Race 6, 1200m
Diddley Squad (B+SPG)
Quite an open race, as the market would suggest, however I do think there is enough in the price of Diddley Squat on the back of a tidy jump out a fortnight ago.
Won in good figures on debut and did perform well up to 1400m next start, before running down/had enough.
Confident the stable have him forward to do something and I’d suggest he’s come back a more furnished runner off the jump out.
