Gai Waterhouse Lands Last Slot For Double Shot In The $20 Million The Everest At Randwick On Saturday

Racing’s first lady Gai Waterhouse will have a ‘double shot’ in the $20 million The Everest at Randwick on Saturday.

Waterhouse and training partner Adrian Bott snared the last slot in the lucrative race with Yulong Investments announcing its star mare Alcohol Free will run in its Everest slot.

Top jockey Craig Williams who was in the saddle aboard Everest champion Giga Kick last year has been engaged to steer Alcohol Free in Saturday’s 1200m sprint.

Along with 4YO Hawaii Five Oh, Waterhouse now has two runners and two shots at collecting racing’s richest prize.

Waterhouse said Hawaii Five Oh’s preparation for the race has been seamless.

“I think we have a fabulous chance,’’ Waterhouse told Ch.7.

“Hawaii Five Oh is a lightly-raced horse, he’s come right at the right time. He’s big.”

The 4YO heads into the race off the back of an impressive last start where he ran second to Everest frontrunner Think About It in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes at Randwick.
